WHS senior Sairra Tapp finished as state runner-up over the weekend at the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association girls state tournament. The tournament was held at Hilliard Davidson High School in Columbus. Sairra wrestled in the 131-pound weight class and earned pins over three competitors en route to her showdown in the title match with defending state runner up and top ranked Cassia Zammit of Miamisburg High School. Sairra wrestled very well in the championship match but ultimately lost via decision.
With her second-place finish, Sairra has etched herself into the Wooster High School Wrestling record book as the highest female finisher in a state competition. WHS Head Varsity Wrestling coach Sean Michael Murphy said the following: “Sairra has pushed, both literally and figuratively, through countless obstacles in pursuit of reaching the highest levels of our sport. Standing on the state championship podium this weekend was just one of the many rewards she’s found by seeking out something so challenging and unique.”
Sairra will be honored for her state runner-up finish at halftime of Saturday’s home boys basketball tournament game versus the winner of Copley and Barberton. The game will start at 7:00 PM and Sairra’s halftime ceremony will be livestreamed at woostergenerals.tv.
